Agora roundtable #1

The Department of International Education organised their first Agora Roundtable event on Saturday 25 September 2021 at the Education University of Hong Kong. The event was funded by the FEHD’s Focused Knowledge Transfer Grant. The Agora Roundtable Series is part of a range of initiatives that focuses on bridging the gap between researchers and practitioners.

This event aimed to bring together school-based practitioners in international schools who are engaged in research, either as part of their (post)graduate studies or as part of a research-oriented initiative at their school. Teacher-researchers had the opportunity to share research with peers, to discuss ideas as well as provide insights and share experiences more broadly.

Teacher-researchers from six different international schools in Hong Kong participated and shared their research on a variety of topics: international mindedness in the International Baccalaureate; educating for social conscience; teacher assessment literacy; the impact of school-based citizen science experiences; student learning experiences through lifeworld elements; an ethic of care in the International Baccalaureate; taking an enskilment approach to becoming an outdoor leader.

The positive responses from the participants indicated that there is demand for opportunities to share school-based research and to offer teacher-researchers a platform to share their thoughts and ideas. The Agora Roundtable Series will provide more of these opportunities in the future.
